Iran Says Blockade, Threats, Breaches of Commitments Undermine US Talks

(MENAFN) Iran has stated that ongoing sanctions, restrictions, and threats are the main barriers preventing what it describes as sincere negotiations with the United States.

According to reports, Iran’s president emphasized that while Tehran supports dialogue and remains open to reaching a negotiated agreement, major obstacles remain. He said: “Breach of commitments, blockade, and threats are the main obstacles to genuine negotiations.”

He also criticized what he described as contradictions in international messaging, writing on a social media platform that “The world sees your endless hypocritical rhetoric and the contradiction between claims and actions,”

Separately, Iran’s parliament speaker stressed that any ceasefire would only be meaningful under specific conditions. As stated by reports, he said: “A full ceasefire is only meaningful if it is not violated by a naval blockade.”

He further argued that a ceasefire cannot be considered valid if restrictions continue to affect maritime routes or if economic pressure is maintained, adding that tensions involving Israeli actions across different fronts must also stop.

The parliament speaker also commented on the strategic importance of regional waterways, saying that reopening key maritime passages would not be possible under what he described as ongoing violations of ceasefire conditions.

He further claimed that military pressure would not achieve political objectives, stating that external parties would not reach their goals “through military aggression, nor will they achieve them through bullying,” and emphasized that any resolution must involve recognition of what he described as the rights of the Iranian people.
