Israeli Strike in Southern Lebanon Leaves Two Dead Despite Ceasefire

(MENAFN) Two people are killed by Israeli military fire in southern Lebanon as ceasefire violations continue, according to reports citing military statements.

The Israeli army says its forces open fire and kill the two individuals while they cross what it describes as a “forward defense line” in the Saluki area of Tyre, as stated by reports.

According to reports, the military claims that Israeli aircraft target the pair after identifying them as armed men posing what it calls an “immediate threat” to its forces.

Since early March, Israeli operations in Lebanon are reported to have killed 2,294 people, injured 7,544, and displaced more than 1 million before a 10-day ceasefire is announced, as stated by reports.

Despite the agreement, Israeli forces remain positioned in southern Lebanon along areas they describe as a “forward defense line” extending up to 10 kilometers from the border, according to reports.

The army has also released a map showing this line, which includes 55 villages under its control, and continues to restrict Lebanese residents from returning to their homes after earlier evacuation orders, as stated by reports.

In related developments, Israeli forces are also reported to have killed one person and injured two others in eastern Lebanon while carrying out demolitions of homes, mosques, and roads in southern towns, according to reports citing local media.
