UK Inflation Rises by Three Percent in March
(MENAFN) According to reports, consumer price inflation in the United Kingdom increased to 3.3% in March, up from 3% in February, driven largely by higher energy costs, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) said on Wednesday.
The ONS noted that energy prices were the primary factor behind the rise in inflation during the month, with petrol prices reaching their highest level since August 2024.
Transport costs saw a notable jump, rising by 4.7% in the 12 months to March compared with 2.4% in February. The ONS said this was the highest annual increase in transport prices since December 2022.
Housing and household services also recorded an increase, rising 4.3% in March compared with 4.2% the previous month. Food and non-alcoholic beverage prices went up by 3.7%, slightly higher than February’s 3.3%.
On a monthly basis, consumer prices increased by 0.7% in March, compared with a 0.3% rise in February.
Overall, the data indicates continued inflationary pressure in the UK economy, with energy and transport costs playing a central role in driving price increases.
