Israeli Army Publishes Map of Positions in Southern Lebanon

(MENAFN) The Israeli military has released a map detailing what it describes as a “forward defense line,” showing areas where its forces are currently operating in southern Lebanon.

According to reports citing an Israeli newspaper, the area of incursion extends eastward toward what the military refers to as the “Cristofani Ridge,” located roughly 12 kilometers from Mount Hermon and overlooking the Beirut–Damascus road.

The reported operational zone also includes areas stretching toward the town of Khiam and the Beaufort region in central southern Lebanon, extending westward to Ras al-Bayda.

As stated by reports, the military has not disclosed the total size of the deployment area.

However, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz has indicated that the incursion reaches approximately 10 kilometers into Lebanese territory.

The Israeli army said the “forward defense line” is intended to prevent what it describes as “direct threats” to communities in northern Israel. It added that five military divisions, along with naval forces, are currently operating south of the line with the stated aim of targeting and dismantling Hezbollah infrastructure and reducing threats to civilians in northern Israel.

The military has also previously referred to a “Yellow Line” concept in Lebanon, similar to terminology used in operations in the Gaza Strip.
