US Military Launches Strike on Narco-Trafficking Vessel in Caribbean

(MENAFN) The US military destroyed a suspected narco-trafficking vessel in the Caribbean on Sunday, killing three people aboard, US Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) announced.

SOUTHCOM confirmed the operation was carried out by Joint Task Force Southern Spear under the direct orders of SOUTHCOM Commander Gen. Francis L. Donovan.

In a statement published on X — the US-based social media platform — SOUTHCOM said: "Intelligence confirmed the vessel was transiting along known narco-trafficking routes in the Caribbean and was engaged in narco-trafficking operations."

"Three male narco-terrorists were killed during this action. No U.S. military forces were harmed," SOUTHCOM added.

Sunday's strike forms part of a broader, intensifying US military campaign against suspected drug trafficking networks operating across the Eastern Pacific. In recent months, American forces have conducted dozens of comparable operations across both the Eastern Pacific and Caribbean, with official tallies placing the total death toll from such strikes at more than 150 individuals.

The accelerating pace and lethality of the campaign have, however, drawn scrutiny from legal experts, some of whom have raised questions over the strikes' compliance with international and domestic law — concerns that US military and government officials have yet to publicly address in detail.

No further casualties were reported in Sunday's operation.
