Emmanuel Remi Aiyede

Emmanuel Remi Aiyede is a Professor of Political Institutions, Governance, and Public Policy at the University of Ibadan and an Extraordinary Professor at the School of Public Management and Administration(SPMA), University of Pretoria. He is also a Fellow of the Pan-African Scientific Research Council and previously served as the Research and Policy Uptake Lead at the Partnership for African Social and Governance Research (PASGR), Nairobi, from July to December 2023. Prof. Aiyede has held several key administrative roles, including Head of the Department of Political Science, Sub-Dean of the Faculty of the Social Sciences, and Coordinator of the Leadership and Governance Programme at the Centre for Sustainable Development, University of Ibadan.
He has been a visiting scholar at institutions such as the Transregional Centre for Democratic Studies (TCDS) at New School University in New York, the Electoral Institute in Abuja, the US Institute at the University of Delaware, Newark, and a Fellow at the Development Policy Centre. In recognition of his contributions, he was awarded a medal for Outstanding Research in Development (2003). Additionally, he serves on the editorial board of the Nigerian Tribune, is an analyst for Yiaga Africa and Channels Television's Elections Results Analysis Electronic Dashboard, and is the Regional Editor (Africa) for Roundtable: Commonwealth Journal of International Affairs and Public Policy. He is also a member of the Advisory Board of the SPMA, the Governance Hub Africa and the Graduate Research Clinic.
His research focuses on public policy, institutional reforms, and democratic institution-building, with a strong emphasis on governance and policy capacity development in Africa. He has collaborated with PASGR to improve pedagogy in higher education and contributed to curriculum design for advanced public policy programmes across African universities.
Prof. Aiyede's recent publications include Public Policy and Research in Africa (2023, co-edited) and 'Governance and the Resilience of Cities in Africa' (African Journal of Sustainable Development, 2024). His work has also appeared in Voluntas: International Journal of Voluntary and Nonprofit Organizations, International Political Science Review, and Development in Practice, among others.
