Hezbollah Chief Says Forces Remain Prepared Amid Ceasefire Tensions

(MENAFN) Hezbollah Secretary-General Naim Qassem said on Saturday that the group’s forces will stay deployed in the field and prepared to react to any violations of the ceasefire by Israel.

In a statement, Qassem said: “Resistance fighters will remain in the field, with their fingers on the trigger, and will respond to violations of the aggression accordingly.”

He emphasized that the ceasefire should mean a total end to hostilities, adding that Hezbollah does not trust Israel and will continue maintaining combat readiness on the ground.

“There is no ceasefire from one side only. It must be from both sides,” he said.

Qassem also expressed appreciation for Iran, saying it “supported and assisted, and explicitly linked” the ceasefire reached with the US in Pakistan talks to the cessation of hostilities in Lebanon.

He further accused Washington of imposing terms on the Lebanese government regarding the ceasefire, referring to a US statement issued after the agreement took effect.

“This statement does not mean anything in practice, but it is an insult to our country,” he said, claiming that Lebanon had not formally endorsed the wording of the agreement.

Outlining future expectations, Qassem listed five conditions, including a “permanent cessation of aggression across all of Lebanon by air, land and sea,” as well as a complete Israeli withdrawal from occupied territories up to the border.
