Arab, Islamic States Condemn Israel's Somaliland Envoy Move
In a joint statement issued on Saturday in Doha, the foreign ministers of Qatar, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Somalia, Sudan, Libya, Bangladesh, Algeria, Palestine, Turkey, Indonesia, Pakistan, Mauritania, Jordan and Oman strongly denounced Israel's decision to appoint a diplomatic representative in the region referred to as Somaliland.
The statement said the move constitutes a clear breach of the sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Somalia.
The ministers reaffirmed their firm opposition to any unilateral actions that undermine the sovereignty or unity of states and expressed full support for Somalia's sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity.
They also stressed that only Somalia's legitimate state institutions represent the will of its people.
The statement noted that such actions violate international law, the United Nations Charter and the Constitutive Act of the African Union.
It warned that the move could set a dangerous precedent, undermine stability in the Horn of Africa and negatively affect regional peace and security.
