Gaza Struggles with Flour Shortage, Supplies Fall Far Short of Daily Needs

(MENAFN) The Gaza Strip requires approximately 450 tons of flour daily, but only about 200 tons are currently available, according to Gaza’s government media office on Sunday. The office accused Israel of implementing a policy of “engineered starvation” by severely limiting the flour supply.

Despite a ceasefire agreement that permits the entry of 600 trucks per day, Israel has allowed only 38% of the pre-war flour supply to enter, the office said. The crisis has deepened since World Central Kitchen stopped providing flour, which had previously contributed 20 to 30 tons daily. Additionally, the World Food Program reduced its daily supply from 300 tons to 200 tons.

Several other organizations have also suspended their bread and flour programs in Gaza.

Of Gaza's 2.4 million residents, nearly 1.9 million remain displaced, living in harsh conditions in makeshift tents after their homes were destroyed during Israel’s ongoing war. Despite the ceasefire, which began on October 10, 2025, there has been little improvement in living conditions, as Israel continues to block the agreed levels of humanitarian aid, including food, medical supplies, and shelter materials.

The war has led to over 72,000 Palestinian deaths, with more than 172,000 injuries and extensive damage to around 90% of civilian infrastructure.
