Amman, April 12 (Petra) – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates on Sunday condemned the storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque/Al-Haram Al-Sharif by extremist Israeli Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir under the protection of Israeli police, describing it as a flagrant violation of the existing historical and legal status quo.
Ministry spokesperson Ambassador Fouad Al-Majali characterized the incident as a "desecration" of the holy site and a "condemnable escalation."
He expressed Jordan's absolute rejection of the provocative move, warning that such actions by the extremist minister – facilitated by Israeli police – are part of a systematic attempt to impose new realities at the site, specifically through efforts to partition the mosque temporally and spatially.
Al-Majali warned of the grave consequences of continued provocations against Islamic and Christian sanctities in occupied Jerusalem. He stressed that Israel has no sovereignty over Jerusalem and its holy sites, calling on the international community to take a firm stance to compel Israel, as the occupying power, to halt its ongoing violations and unilateral measures in the occupied West Bank.
The spokesperson reaffirmed that the entire 144-dunum Al-Aqsa Mosque is a pure place of worship for Muslims. He reiterated that the Jerusalem Waqf and Al-Aqsa Mosque Affairs Department, a body under the Jordanian Ministry of Awqaf, Islamic Affairs, and Holy Places, holds the exclusive legal authority to manage the mosque's affairs and regulate entry to the site.
