A New Chapter in Washington: Uzbekistan–US Relations Enter the Stage of Practical Partnership

(MENAFNEditorial) In recent years, relations between Uzbekistan and the United States have reached a new level, moving from declarative dialogue to practical partnership. In particular, Saida Mirziyoyeva’s visit to the US in April 2026 is assessed as an important diplomatic and business mission that accelerated this process. The visit aimed to strengthen political-diplomatic dialogue, expand trade, economic and investment cooperation, support the newly established US–Uzbekistan Business and Investment Council, and elevate strategic partnership to the level of practical projects.

The geography of the visit reflected both its political and economic significance, with meetings held at Mar-a-Lago in Florida and in Washington, D.C. This arrangement allowed for a combination of informal diplomacy and formal state negotiations. Notably, multiple-stage meetings were held with Sergio Goor, the US President’s Special Envoy for Central and South Asia, focusing on bilateral economic cooperation, attracting investment, and institutionalizing business ties. These meetings were particularly significant in the context of the upcoming launch of the Business Council.

High-level political dialogue was also elevated during the visit. In particular, a meeting with Marco Rubio highlighted Uzbekistan’s growing role in US foreign policy. A discussion at the Secretary of State level strengthens political trust, supports domestic reforms, and deepens cooperation on regional security.

The economic dimension of the visit was especially important. Meetings with U.S. International Development Finance Corporation and its CEO Ben Black opened new opportunities for investment in Uzbekistan. The institution, with a financial capacity of up to $60 billion, supports large projects in infrastructure, energy, and the digital economy. Experts note that projects with DFC participation could significantly increase foreign direct investment inflows into Uzbekistan in the medium term.

Informal meetings at Mar-a-Lago also played a key role. Interactions with public figures such as Tiffany Trump and Michael Boulos helped build trust and create a favorable environment for official agreements. Such contacts often lay the groundwork for business and political collaborations, strengthening direct connections between elites.

Additionally, meetings with American financial institutions, investors, and representatives of the US–Uzbekistan Business Council addressed investment projects, infrastructure modernization, and private sector cooperation. Institutional platforms of this kind, according to international experience, can significantly increase investment flows while providing a transparent and predictable environment for investors.

Overall, the visit demonstrated several important trends: Uzbekistan’s pragmatic, multi-vector foreign policy is being reinforced, economic diplomacy is gaining central importance, and concrete mechanisms for attracting investment are being established. Experts emphasize that this visit should not be seen as a routine dialogue but as a transition to practical cooperation.

In conclusion, Saida Mirziyoyeva’s visit covered political, economic, and investment directions, serving as a key step in elevating bilateral relations to a new level. The activation of business and investment mechanisms, high-level political dialogue, and informal diplomacy together indicate that Uzbekistan–US partnership is being built on a long-term and sustainable foundation. Experts believe that if these developments continue, Uzbekistan could become not only the most promising destination for investment and cooperation in Central Asia but also a key player in the broader international arena.
