Trump Says Fighter Jet Downing Won’t Affect Iran Talks
(MENAFN) President Donald Trump stated on Friday that the destruction of a US fighter jet will not alter ongoing discussions with Iran, according to NBC News.
During a brief phone conversation with the media organization, Trump declined to provide specifics about the ongoing search and rescue efforts following the incident, calling it a "sensitive military matter."
NBC News reported that the president expressed annoyance with how the media was covering the situation, which centers on attempts to recover crew members after the aircraft was shot down.
When questioned about whether the events would impact diplomatic negotiations with Iran, Trump dismissed the notion entirely.
“No, not at all. No, it’s war. We’re in war, Garrett," Trump told NBC News correspondent Garrett Haake.
Earlier, White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt informed CNN that Trump had received briefings regarding a US fighter jet that had been shot down over Iran, later identified as an F-15E Strike Eagle.
Meanwhile, The New York Times reported that a second US Air Force combat aircraft — an A-10 attack plane — went down in the Persian Gulf region around the same time the F-15E was downed over Iran.
