LPG Cylinder Price Today, 2 April: Updated Domestic And Commercial Gas Rates In Delhi, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Kolkata

(MENAFN- Live Mint) The impact of Middle East conflict can be seen in Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) cylinder prices which were revised on 1 April. A price hike was witnessed in 19 kg commercial LPG gas cylinder and 5kg Free Trade LPG (FTL) cylinder price. Commercial cooking gas became costly for the second time since the Iran war with US-Israel began on 28 March. The first revision of ₹144.5 came in March which was followed by nearly ₹200 price hike in April.

Notably, the government hiked 14.2 kg domestic LPG cylinder prices by ₹60 last month but no changes in rates have been introduced in this month. In the national capital, Delhi, the cost of 19 kg commercial LPG gas cylinder increased by ₹194 and by ₹195 in Mumbai.

Citi-wise updated domestic and commercial LPG prices on 2 April

The latest changes in commercial LPG prices comes in the wake of monthly revision of ATF and LPG prices undertaken by state-owned Indian Oil Corporation, Bharat Petroleum, and Hindustan Petroleum. Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) prices also saw an upward revision in major metro cities on 1 April, aligning with the broader surge in jet fuel prices globally. These revisions are based on international benchmarks and the exchange rate.

Global oil prices shot up by almost 50% since the war began due to blockade of the Strait of Hormuz - a key global transit route for crude oil and energy supplies.

Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) prices also saw an upward revision in major metro cities from 1 April. In Delhi, ATF is now priced at ₹1,04,927 per kilolitre, while in Kolkata it stands at ₹1,09,450 per kilolitre. Mumbai has recorded ATF prices at ₹98,247 per kilolitre, and Chennai at ₹1,09,873 per kilolitre.

'Huge burden on dhaba, restaurants, hotels,' says Randeep Singh Surjewala

Over the commercial LPG cylinder price hike, Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala on Wednesday slammed the Modi government.

"Today, from April 1, the Modi government has imposed a huge burden on dhaba operators, ready-mix operators, restaurants, hotels, sweet makers, confectioners, dosa and idli makers. They have increased the price of a ₹200 commercial gas cylinder," ANI quoted Randeep Singh Surjewala as saying.

He added,“This is the third hike in 60 days, and for the first time in 78 years, a 19-kilo commercial gas cylinder has crossed ₹2000 --now it's become a ₹2185 commercial gas cylinder. In the Congress government, we left gas at ₹400, and even then, PM Modi twice raised the household gas cylinder to ₹913, and now after April 9 and April 23, how much more they'll increase it--only God knows.”

On Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a special review meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) in the context of the ongoing West Asia conflict. During the second special CCS meeting, which was held at 7 Lok Kalyan Marg, the officials discussed the supply situation of petroleum products, particularly LNG/LPG and power availability.

While the government maintains that there has been no reported dry-outs at LPG distributorships, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut lashed out at the Centre. The Rajya Sabha MP accused the government of lying over the availability of cooking gas cylinders. Insisting that the governmemnt should not lie, he said, "Don't trust the (Union) government. It is lying. There is a shortage of LPG and it will persist," PTI reported.
