(MENAFN) New Zealand has stepped up mosquito surveillance after larvae of the exotic species Aedes aegypti were detected at Queens Wharf.
As stated by reports, there is no evidence that the mosquitoes have become established. Officials plan to carry out intensive monitoring and trapping for at least three weeks within 400 meters of the site where the larvae were discovered, according to David Sinclair.
Health New Zealand is collaborating with the Ministry for Primary Industries body", the Auckland Council, and the Port of Auckland to locate and eliminate potential mosquito breeding grounds. The public has been urged to remove standing water and avoid interfering with monitoring traps.
