I am a microbiologist and bioinformatician specializing in host–microbe interactions and microbial ecology. My research focuses on the microbiomes of honey bees and other insects, with the goal of improving pollinator health and sustainable agriculture through microbiome-informed strategies such as probiotics and disease prevention. I develop open-source bioinformatics tools and databases, including BEExact, and co-launched the Canadian Bee Gut Project, a nationwide citizen-science initiative studying bee microbiomes across Canada. My work has also introduced the concept of“missing microbes” to bee research, highlighting how disruptions to beneficial microbial communities may contribute to pollinator disease and decline.
