PDMA Warns Of Possible Glacial Lake Outbursts In KP's Upper Districts
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued an alert due to the risk of glacial lake outburst floods (GLOFs) in the upper regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
According to PDMA, district administrations in Upper Chitral, Lower Chitral, Upper Dir, Swat, and Upper Kohistan have been directed to take precautionary measures in view of the potential threat.
A PDMA spokesperson said that expected rainfall between March 10 and 12 may increase the risk of glacial lakes bursting and flash floods.

Additionally, an unusual rise in temperatures could also raise the chances of glacial lake outbursts.
PDMA has instructed district administrations to continuously monitor vulnerable locations, inform at-risk communities in time, and identify safe evacuation points.
Rescue and emergency services have also been directed to remain on high alert.
The spokesperson further advised tourists and travelers to avoid unnecessary travel to dangerous areas, while people living in low-lying regions have been urged to take precautionary measures.
It is worth mentioning that PDMA had earlier issued a weather alert for thunderstorms and rainfall between March 9 and 12, along with a rise in daytime temperatures in the plains.
