Madbouly Orders Tighter Market Inspections To Ensure Goods Availability, Fair Pricing
The meeting was attended by Manal Awad, Minister of Local Development and Environment; Sherif Farouk, Minister of Supply and Internal Trade; and governors from across the country, while others joined via video conference.
Addressing the governors, Madbouly stressed their central role in coordinating with relevant ministries, authorities, and regulatory bodies to combat monopolistic practices and prevent deliberate hoarding of goods.
He reassured that Egypt maintains secure and sufficient stocks of strategic and essential commodities for several months, including supplies needed for various manufacturing sectors.
Madbouly also highlighted government efforts, in coordination with the banking sector, to secure the needs of energy and industrial sectors, noting that proactive measures have helped stabilise the market despite ongoing regional geopolitical tensions.
The prime minister urged strict enforcement of all available mechanisms to protect citizens, including the possible referral of price manipulators to military courts, as directed by President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi.
Citizens were encouraged to report violations through the Unified Government Complaints System, with authorities instructed to respond promptly and investigate complaints on the ground.
Madbouly also called for continued efforts to rationalise electricity consumption on streets and main roads, excluding homes, factories, and production facilities, and stressed the need for governors to personally oversee efforts to prevent illegal construction or encroachment on agricultural land, particularly during the upcoming Eid al-Fitr holiday.
Awad said inspection teams across all governorates are conducting daily monitoring of markets to ensure the availability of commodities, maintain price balance, and prevent monopolistic practices.
Farouk added that intensified oversight includes daily reporting on commodity quantities, monitoring sales outlets, facilitating the transportation of goods between governorates, and expanding“one-day market” initiatives to ensure fair pricing and broader access for citizens.
