Qatar Rebukes Iran Over Attacks on Türkiye, Azerbaijan

(MENAFN) Qatar has sharply condemned Iran following a ballistic missile launch targeting Türkiye and a drone assault on an Azerbaijani airport, labeling the incidents a "serious escalation" and branding them "a flagrant violation of state sovereignty."

In an official statement issued Thursday, Qatar's Foreign Ministry described the incidents as "a dangerous escalation and a flagrant violation of the sovereignty of states," cautioning that such actions posed a direct threat to the security and stability of the broader region.

Doha took particular aim at Tehran's pattern of widening hostilities, declaring that Iran's continued opening of new fronts and expanding the scope of escalation with neighboring countries is "extremely dangerous." The ministry demanded that Iran immediately abandon what it called "irresponsible policies" that erode regional stability.

Qatar further urged Tehran "to prioritize the interests of the region's peoples and adhere to principles of good neighborliness and international law," while reaffirming its unconditional solidarity with both Türkiye and Azerbaijan and backing their efforts to defend their sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The condemnation followed two separate incidents. Turkey's National Defense Ministry reported Wednesday that a ballistic munition launched from Iranian territory and directed at Turkish airspace was successfully intercepted and neutralized by NATO air and missile defense units operating in the Eastern Mediterranean.

In a separate incident Thursday, Azerbaijan's Foreign Ministry confirmed that Iran-launched drones struck its Nakhchivan exclave — one hitting the terminal building of Nakhchivan International Airport directly, while a second landed near a school in the village of Shakarabad. Tehran offered no response to the reports.

The strikes unfold against the backdrop of an ongoing large-scale U.S.-Israeli offensive on Iran, active since Saturday, which has killed at least 926 people including Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and senior military figures. Iran has responded with waves of drone and missile attacks directed at Israel and Gulf states hosting U.S. military infrastructure.
