'Bard Al Agoz' Causes Sudden Drop In Qatar Temperatures
Doha, Qatar: The Qatar Meteorology Department (QMD) has stated that 'Bard Al Agoz' brings the last cold waves of the winter season to the country, causing a sudden drop in temperatures.
A local term used to describe the last cold spell at the end of winter, Bard Al Agoz refers to a sharp decline in temperatures after they have noticeably risen, often leading people to believe that winter has ended and warmer weather has begun.

The QMD said the phenomenon usually occurs in late February through the first week of March.
The department added that this term originates from a traditional tale about an elderly woman who sheared her sheep early, believing that winter had ended. However, the cold northern winds returned, and the sheep died.
