Iran Reports Deaths of Khamenei’s Relatives, Senior Defense Figures

(MENAFN) Iranian outlets reported Sunday that close relatives of Ali Hosseini Khamenei were killed following joint Israeli–US strikes, citing sources said to be connected to the supreme leader’s office.

According to those reports, the daughter, son-in-law, and granddaughter of Khamenei died as a result of the attacks. Confirmation of the deaths was said to have come after communication was established with informed individuals at the leader’s residence. It was further reported that one of his daughters-in-law was killed in a strike carried out Saturday morning. No additional information was provided regarding the precise circumstances of the attack.

Separate accounts from Iranian media indicated that several high-ranking defense officials were also killed in the same wave of US-Israeli airstrikes.

Among those reportedly killed was Ali Shamkhani, secretary of Iran’s Defense Council and a senior adviser to the supreme leader. He was said to have died in the strikes targeting Iranian territory.

In addition, Gen. Mohammad Pakpour, identified in reports as commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), was also reported dead, along with other senior defense figures.

Shamkhani, 70, had recently been overseeing negotiations with the United States concerning Iran’s nuclear program. Only days before the reported attacks, he stated, “If the main issue of the negotiations is not making nuclear weapons by Iran, this is in compliance with a religious decree issued by Iran’s leader and the country’s defence doctrine, and an immediate agreement is within reach.”
