Iran Confirms Death of Supreme Leader Khamenei in US-Israeli Strike

(MENAFN) Iranian state television announced Sunday that Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei had been killed following a US-Israeli bombardment, triggering declarations of national mourning and fierce vows of retaliation from Tehran's most powerful institutions.

The broadcaster offered no details on the precise circumstances surrounding his death. However, Iran's Supreme National Security Council confirmed that Khamenei was killed at his office early Saturday, declaring that his death would mark the beginning of a "great uprising against the tyrants of the world."

State media separately announced 40 days of public mourning across the country.

Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps wasted no time issuing a stark warning to those it held responsible, vowing it would "decisively avenge" Khamenei's killing and stressing that "the hand of revenge of the Iranian people will not let go of the killers of the Imam."

In a sweeping statement, the Guard invoked religious and nationalist themes, asserting that martyrdom in the path of Islam and "Greater Iran" represents victory and proximity to the ultimate goal. It further declared that Khamenei's path "will not stop after his martyrdom, but will continue with strength and grandeur."

The Revolutionary Guard also called on all segments of Iranian society to participate in national defense gatherings, urging a show of unity and cohesion before "the enemies of the nation and terrorists." The statement framed the killing as a catalyst that would deepen national resolve rather than diminish it.

Across the Atlantic, US President Donald Trump confirmed the news bluntly in a post on his social media platform Truth Social.

"Khamenei, one of the most evil people in History, is dead," Trump wrote.
