Saudi Arabia Sets 90-Day Stay Limit For GCC-Registered Vehicles

Riyadh: Vehicles registered in a Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) country will not be allowed to remain in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for more than 90 days within any 365-day period, Saudi English language newspaper Saudi Gazette reported.

This period, whether consecutive or non-consecutive,“is calculated from the date when the vehicle entered the Kingdom through any of the Saudi customs ports,” the report added.

“The Saudi Council of Ministers has framed regulations governing the stay of vehicles registered in one of the GCC countries within the Kingdom. This is aimed at regulating such vehicles' use and reduce violations related to vehicles remaining for extended periods without registration,” it continued.

It was also noted that the regulation would apply to“vehicles owned by a Saudi citizen or an expatriate, or those authorized to drive them within the Kingdom,” before stating that an exception was there for vehicles rented from licensed establishments in any GCC country.

The regulations also indicate, as per Saudi Gazette, that anyone“exceeding the permitted stay will be penalized according to Article 68, Paragraph 5 of the Traffic Law, as this constitutes a violation.”

A vehicle owner or authorized driver is allowed however to submit a request to the Saudi Ministry of Interior to extend the permitted stay.
