Magnitude 5.5 Earthquake Jolts Bangladesh Tremors Felt In Dhaka


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) An earthquake of magnitude 5.4 struck Bangladesh on Friday, the European Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) said.

The quake was at a depth of 35 km (21.75 miles), EMSC said.

A Reuters witness in the Asian country said that tremors were felt in the Bangladeshi capital, Dhaka. No further information were immediately available.

Bangladesh was hit by a 4.1 shake on February 3. The country is a location of 13 earthquake prone areas, and Chattogram, Chattogram Hill Tracts, and Jaintiapur of Sylhet remain in extreme risk zones.

IANS has reported that an earthquake of magnitude 5 was felt in India's Kolkata.
