Oman Reaffirms Role in Advancing US–Iran Nuclear Talks
(MENAFN) Oman has reiterated its readiness to assist in advancing dialogue between Washington and Tehran aimed at resolving disputes over Iran’s nuclear activities.
Omani Foreign Minister Badr Albusaidi stated that Muscat remains dedicated to backing and facilitating the ongoing engagement between the United States and Iran in pursuit of a workable outcome on Tehran’s nuclear file. His remarks came during talks with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in Geneva late Wednesday, just ahead of another round of indirect negotiations between the two sides.
According to an official statement released Thursday by Oman’s Foreign Ministry on the social media platform X, the meeting focused on reviewing Iran’s positions and proposals intended to help secure a renewed agreement. These ideas are said to build upon the "guiding principles" established during the previous negotiating session held in Geneva.
The ministry further indicated that Albusaidi is scheduled to engage with members of the US delegation to relay Tehran’s viewpoints and to listen to Washington’s perspectives and suggested frameworks.
After the most recent talks on Feb. 17, both parties characterized the discussions in positive terms, noting consensus on "guiding principles" that could serve as a foundation for a future accord.
The renewed diplomatic contacts between Tehran and Washington are unfolding against a backdrop of heightened military activity. The United States has significantly reinforced its presence in the Persian Gulf, while Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has conducted multiple military exercises amid concerns over potential conflict.
