Gaza Officials Say WCK Aid at Risk from Israeli Restrictions
(MENAFN) Gaza’s government has raised concerns that Israeli-imposed restrictions may force the US-based nonprofit World Central Kitchen (WCK) to suspend its activities, warning that this could worsen the humanitarian situation in the enclave.
According to a statement from Gaza’s Government Media Office, reports indicate that WCK could halt operations in the coming days due to “serious obstacles imposed by Israel on the ground.”
The statement highlighted that the limitations have become apparent as the number of daily aid trucks allowed to enter with food supplies has dropped sharply, from 25 to just five.
Officials noted that this reduction has severely undermined the organization’s ability to operate and threatens the continuity of food services that thousands depend on every day.
The office also reported that there has been pressure to source raw materials from within Israel instead of the shipments previously received from Egypt. This change, it said, disrupts the humanitarian supply chain, raises costs, and adds further obstacles to maintaining aid under current systems.
The statement called on journalists and media outlets to handle the issue with professional responsibility, urging coverage that reflects the humanitarian reality “without exaggeration or causing public panic,” while stressing that the main cause of a potential crisis is the restrictions on aid entry.
