Baniyas Lead on Day One of Jiu-Jitsu Competition at NAS Sports Tournament


(MENAFN- Action PR) Dubai, 25 February 2026: Baniyas Jiu-Jitsu Club moved to the top of the standings on the opening day of the jiu-jitsu competition at the 13th edition of the NAS Sports Tournament, held at Nad Al Sheba Sports Complex in Dubai. Al Jazira Jiu-Jitsu Club sit second overall, with Al Ain Jiu-Jitsu Club in third following an intense first day of action.
The opening day featured strong participation in the Teen and Youth divisions, with athletes representing clubs and academies from across the UAE. The turnout underlined the continued growth of the sport in these age groups and the tournament’s importance on the local calendar.
Competitions on Tuesday were tightly contested, with athletes showing tactical discipline and skilled match management. Many competitions were decided by narrow margins, where positional control, timely transitions and point scoring proved decisive. The overall standard reflected the technical development and maturity of the athletes competing on day one.
H.E. Mohamed Salem Al Dhaheri, Vice Chairman of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation, said the jiu-jitsu competitions at NAS Sports Tournament is an important event on the local competition calendar. He thanked the tournament organisers and Dubai Sports Council for their support and organisation of the event.
He said the partnership between the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation and Dubai Sports Council is a strong example of cooperation between sports institutions in the country and helps strengthen the presence of jiu-jitsu locally. He added that hosting the championship at Nad Al Sheba Sports Complex adds extra value because of the venue’s high standards and facilities.
Talal Al Asbahi, father of Al Jazira Jiu-Jitsu Club athletes Abdullah and Mohammed Al Asbahi, who competed in the Teen division, said families are keen for their children to take part in Ramadan tournaments because they offer a healthy and balanced way to spend time during the Holy Month. He said the NAS Championship provides a good competitive environment for youth, helping them stay disciplined and physically ready, while also creating a positive experience that brings athletes and their families together through sport.
Saoud Alblooshi of Sharjah Self-Defence Sports Club, who won gold in the Youth 46 kg division, said he focused on controlling distance and setting the right pace in each match while working to secure strong positions early. He said the close level of competition required constant focus and good timing in decision-making.
He added that the NAS Championship is an important step in preparing for upcoming events, as it gives athletes the chance to compete against different styles in a strong, competitive setting and test their technical and physical readiness before international competitions.
Competition continues today (Wednesday) with the Adult division, featuring some of the most experienced athletes on the local scene as they aim for top results at one of the UAE’s leading jiu-jitsu championships.
