Ukraine Signals Upcoming Russia Negotiations on Feb. 26-27
(MENAFN) A fresh round of negotiations between Ukraine and Russia may be held on Feb. 26–27, according to Kyrylo Budanov, who heads Ukraine’s presidential office.
As stated by reports, Budanov indicated that discussions between the two countries are nearing a decisive stage, where both sides must determine whether to prolong the conflict or shift toward a peaceful resolution.
He also revealed that a swap of detainees could occur within days. “We are working on it. I hope that it will happen this week,” he said, noting that the number of people involved in the exchange would be “significant,” exceeding the previous swap. He did not elaborate further on the matter.
Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed his expectation that the upcoming negotiations would be convened before the end of February. “We are counting on the next meeting, and it would be right to hold it in February. It is important that Europeans are present — France, Great Britain, Germany, Italy, and also Switzerland as the host country,” he said.
The latest diplomatic effort follows earlier meetings between representatives of Russia and Ukraine. The two sides previously met in Geneva on Feb. 17–18 for their third round of talks, after holding two prior sessions in Abu Dhabi earlier this month and in January.
