Jammu- Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Tuesday called for transforming educational campuses into dynamic innovation ecosystems to realise the vision of Developed India@2047, asserting that Artificial Intelligence must augment human intelligence and not replace it.

He was addressing the valedictory function of the 48 hour national level Hackathon“Innovathon 1.0” at the University of Jammu. The Hackathon was organised by the Skill, Incubation, Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Centre and aimed at promoting technology driven solutions and fostering an entrepreneurial mindset among youth.

Emphasising India's global technological ambitions, the Lieutenant Governor said the country must move beyond mere participation in the technology revolution and position itself as a leader. He noted that Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning are reshaping the trajectory of human civilisation and that nations which master these technologies will determine the rules of the coming century.

“Young generation must pursue transformative innovations because Developed India@2047 is not merely a slogan but represents a commitment and a promise made to ourselves and to future generations,” he said.

Describing youth as architects of the future, he said they are not watching change from the sidelines but actively shaping what comes next. Pathbreaking innovation, fresh ideas and cutting edge research, he observed, possess the power to alter the nation's destiny.

The Lieutenant Governor remarked that campuses have evolved beyond mere degree granting institutions and have become factories of ideas and workshops of innovation where possibility takes tangible form. He lauded the University of Jammu for bridging the gap between classroom theory and authentic learning through Innovathon 1.0.

He said the five thematic pillars of the Hackathon, Artificial Intelligence, Cyber Physical Systems, Sustainability, Health Tech and Responsible Tourism, reflect the real challenges and opportunities confronting India on its journey towards becoming a developed nation.

Calling for structural changes in education, the Lieutenant Governor urged institutions to cultivate entrepreneurial spirit, strengthen startup ecosystems and close the gap between prototypes and products, and concepts and companies.

He cautioned that skills which guaranteed employability just five years ago are already fading into obsolescence. Technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Blockchain, Quantum Computing and Synthetic Biology are no longer distant horizons but defining the present and evolving rapidly.

“Classrooms must pivot from passive learning to active creation. The real question is not what students know but what they can build,” he said, stressing the importance of interdisciplinary teamwork over individual brilliance.

On the ethical dimension of technology, he underlined that AI tools should amplify human capability rather than displace it. As emerging technologies blur the boundaries between digital and physical worlds, he stressed the need to build secure and robust solutions that genuinely improve the lives of ordinary citizens.

He urged youth and entrepreneurs to focus on priority areas and convert pertinent ideas into viable commercial tools that uplift society, key sectors and national progress.

“Transform knowledge into creation, silos into synergy, and aspirations into achievements. Do not just participate in the future but be ready to define it,” he told the gathering.

Vice Chancellor Prof Umesh Rai, Director SIIEDC Prof Alka Sharma, Prof Anil Gupta, Dr Jatinder Manhas, faculty members, innovators and startup entrepreneurs attended the valedictory ceremony.
