TUNIS, Feb 14 (KUNA) -- In the heart of the historic Medina of Tunis stands Dar Ben Turkia Palace, an Ottoman-era landmark built in the late 18th century that has become a prominent museum and tourist destination.
The palace reflects a unique architectural blend combining Ottoman, Arab, Andalusian and Roman influences, showcasing Tunisia's rich and diverse cultural heritage.
Its grand entrance leads to a winding vestibule designed in accordance with traditional architectural styles of the period, ensuring privacy before opening onto a square central courtyard paved with stone and adorned with a marble fountain.
The courtyard serves as the heart of the residence, surrounded on all four sides by living quarters that once housed small families. The rooms are characterized by classical design elements, including arched doorways, decorative plasterwork and harmonious proportions.
Today, Dar Ben Turkia Palace stands as a testament to the artistic refinement and architectural ingenuity of its time, offering visitors an immersive glimpse into life in Tunis during the Ottoman era. (end)
