Iran Sends Chiilling Warning As US Deploys Muscle With Diplomacy

(MENAFN- Kashmir Observer) Tehran- Iran's top military commander warned Saturday that any attack on the Islamic Republic would trigger a wider regional war and bring a“strategic defeat” to its enemies, as the United States signalled both diplomatic engagement and military pressure by inserting senior commanders into sensitive negotiations over Tehran's nuclear programme.

Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Maj. Gen. Abdolrahim Mousavi said any“adventurist act” against Iran would not only fail but spread crisis across West Asia.

“The enemies of the Islamic Republic of Iran are well aware that any adventure or attempt to impose war against Islamic Iran will lead to their absolute and strategic defeat and cause the expansion of war and crisis throughout the region,” Mousavi said in a message marking Iran's Air Force Day.

He warned that any conflict would impose“heavy and irreparable” costs on those backing such action and said Iran's Air Force was at its“highest level of readiness,” fully coordinated with other branches of the armed forces to deliver a“decisive, rapid and regrettable response” to any aggression.

While insisting that Iran would never initiate a war, Mousavi stressed that Tehran would firmly defend its territorial integrity and strategic interests. He linked current tensions to last year's Israeli-American 12-day war against Iran, which erupted while Tehran was engaged in nuclear talks with Washington.

The warning came a day after indirect US-Iran talks in Oman, where American and Iranian delegations resumed a fragile diplomatic channel amid mounting military posturing in the region.
