Second Group of Palestinians Returns to Gaza

(MENAFN) A second group of Palestinians arrived at the Rafah crossing on Tuesday to complete entry procedures and return to Gaza, according to reports from Egyptian media. The individuals had been receiving medical treatment in Egyptian hospitals before heading back to the enclave.

The returnees reached the crossing earlier in the day to finalize administrative formalities required for entry. Their arrival follows the partial reopening of the Rafah crossing on Monday, marking the first movement through the terminal after nearly two years of closure under Israel’s strict restrictions.

Israeli media reported that around 50 Palestinians are expected to enter Gaza, while roughly 150 patients and their companions are scheduled to leave for medical care in Egypt. Local health authorities in Gaza estimate that nearly 22,000 patients are waiting for the crossing to fully reopen.

Captured by Israel in May 2024 during the ongoing conflict in Gaza, the Rafah terminal is a key route for humanitarian aid. The crossing’s reopening had been delayed despite an initial ceasefire agreement scheduled for October, as Israel insisted on securing the return of its final captive in Gaza, which was completed last week.

Even with the ceasefire in place, Israeli attacks have continued, resulting in 524 deaths and 1,360 injuries since October 10, according to Gaza’s media office.
