Iran Rejects Reports of Enriched Uranium Transfers
(MENAFN) A senior Iranian official on Monday denied that the country has any plans to send its enriched uranium to another nation, according to reports.
“Iranian officials have no intention of transferring enriched nuclear material abroad,” said Ali Bagheri, deputy for foreign policy at the Secretariat of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, in remarks carried by state news agency. “Negotiations are not basically focused on such an issue,” he added.
The Kremlin reiterated on Monday its offer to process or store Iran’s enriched uranium in an effort to reduce tensions between Tehran and Washington. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said, “This topic has been on the agenda for a long time. Russia has been offering its services for quite a long time as a possible option that would lead to the removal of certain irritants for a number of countries.”
Tensions between Tehran and Washington have increased following anti-government protests in Iran in late December. US President Donald Trump confirmed that a large American fleet is heading to the region, warning Iran to engage in nuclear negotiations or face possible military action.
In recent days, diplomatic efforts by regional powers, including Türkiye, have sought to ease the escalating strain between the two countries.
