Khamenei Warns US Attack on Iran Could Spark Regional War

(MENAFN) Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei warned on Sunday that any military action by the United States against Iran would not remain limited and would instead spread across the region.

“If the US initiates a war this time, it would spill over across the entire region,” Khamenei said while addressing a gathering in Tehran ahead of the 47th anniversary of the 1979 Islamic Revolution that brought an end to the Pahlavi monarchy.

He downplayed Washington’s recent military deployments in the Persian Gulf, saying such actions are routine and do not represent a new development.

Khamenei noted that US officials have repeatedly made similar threats in previous years, frequently asserting that “all options are on the table,” including the use of force.

“Now this man too constantly claims that ‘we brought warships’ and so on,” Khamenei said, referring to US President Donald Trump.

“The Iranian nation should not be frightened by such things. The people of Iran are not influenced by these threats.”

His remarks followed a statement made by Trump earlier in the week on social media, in which he said a large “armada” was moving toward Iran and called on Tehran to immediately engage in negotiations.

That message intensified speculation about a possible US military operation and prompted strong reactions from Iranian officials, alongside heightened diplomatic activity throughout the region.

Khamenei emphasized that Iran has no intention of starting a conflict and “does not seek to attack any country,” but warned that it would respond decisively, saying it would “deliver a firm blow to anyone who attacks or harasses it.”
