Pakistan Clarifies Role in “Board of Peace”

(MENAFN) Pakistan emphasized on Thursday that its decision to join the newly established “Board of Peace” launched by US President Donald Trump should not be seen as an indication of moving toward the Abraham Accords.

Speaking at a press briefing in the capital, Islamabad, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Tahir Andrabi explained that Pakistan’s main goal in participating in the Board of Peace is to reinforce and maintain the ceasefire in Gaza, assist reconstruction activities, and promote a just and enduring peace grounded in the Palestinian right to self-determination.

The Abraham Accords are normalization pacts signed between Israel and multiple Muslim-majority nations during Trump’s first term. Presently, four countries, including Bahrain, Morocco, Sudan, and the United Arab Emirates, are signatories to these agreements.

Andrabi also clarified that joining the “Board of Peace” does not indicate any alteration in Pakistan’s foreign policy stance, emphasizing that involvement with the board is unrelated to membership in or participation with an International Stabilization Force.

He noted that Pakistan’s engagement should be interpreted within the larger context of efforts by eight Islamic nations focused on fostering peace in Gaza and pursuing a durable resolution to the Palestinian issue.

“The government’s position remains that diplomatic or cooperative forums do not automatically translate into formal alliances or treaty commitments,” he asserted.

Highlighting the hardship, loss of life, and devastation experienced by the people of Gaza, Andrabi described the “Board of Peace” as offering a “viable glimmer of hope for Gaza and the wider Palestinian question.”
