Ilhan Omar Faces Assault at Minneapolis Town Hall Meeting
(MENAFN) US Representative Ilhan Omar was attacked late Tuesday night at a public town hall gathering in Minneapolis, Minnesota, while she was speaking to residents about the Trump administration’s strict immigration policies and the Department of Homeland Security. The Minnesota Democrat was in the middle of her remarks when the incident unfolded.
According to accounts from the event, an unidentified male rushed toward the stage and seemed to spray Omar with a transparent liquid. Security staff quickly intervened, tackling and holding the man as he was removed. Although Omar looked visibly shaken afterward, she did not sustain any physical injuries.
Authorities said it was not immediately known what the individual was shouting as he was escorted out, nor was the nature of the substance he released confirmed. The disturbance took place while Omar was sharply criticizing Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, urging her resignation or impeachment, and addressing calls to dismantle US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
Despite concerns from those nearby, Omar soon returned to the podium and continued her address, even as some attendees encouraged her to step away for evaluation. One person nearby was heard remarking that the liquid smelled “so bad.” Refusing to be silenced, Omar told the crowd, “We’re going to keep talking. Please, don’t let them have the show,” underscoring her determination to proceed.
