Germany’s Ifo Business Climate Remains Stable
(MENAFN) Germany’s Ifo Business Climate Index remained steady at 87.6 points in January, showing no change from the previous month, according to data released on Monday.
The Ifo Institute for Economic Research explained that the results stemmed from its January Business Climate Index survey, which gathered responses from roughly 9,000 firms.
Analysts had anticipated the index to rise to 88.3 points.
Although the overall index held firm, Germany’s Ifo Expectations Index experienced a minor decline, falling to 89.5 points from 89.7, while the Current Situation Index inched upward to 85.7 points.
In a statement, the Ifo noted that evaluations of the present situation showed a slight improvement, whereas future expectations were adjusted marginally downward.
"The German economy is starting the new year with little momentum," the institute remarked.
The manufacturing industry witnessed a notable increase in the index, as companies assessed their operational conditions more favorably. Additionally, their projections for the future were considerably less negative.
Sentiment in the construction sector also advanced, supported by a more positive appraisal of current circumstances. In the trade sector, the business climate strengthened as firms rated their present situation higher and outlooks became less pessimistic.
Conversely, the service sector experienced a decline in business confidence, with companies judging the current situation slightly worse and adopting a more negative stance regarding future prospects.
