European nations need to reverse decade of “horrible” decisions— Trump

(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump has argued that European countries are causing serious harm to themselves and must undo roughly ten years of what he described as damaging policy decisions if they hope to change course.

Speaking at an international economic forum in Switzerland, Trump stated that although Washington wants European nations to thrive, he believes the continent is heading in the wrong direction. He pointed to what he characterized as poorly managed migration policies and criticized environmental strategies he labels the “green new scam,” saying an emphasis on wind energy has significantly increased energy costs across Europe.

According to Trump, these approaches have produced far-reaching negative outcomes. “The consequences of such destructive policies have been stark, including lower economic growth, lower standards of living, lower birth rates, more socially disruptive migration, more vulnerability to hostile foreign adversaries,” he said.

He further argued that European societies must abandon the mindset they have developed over the past decade, asserting that current trends are self-defeating. “It’s horrible what they’re doing to themselves, they’re destroying themselves. We want strong allies, not seriously weakened ones,” he said.

Soon after these comments, a senior US official echoed the message on social media, warning that unless Europe alters its cultural direction, “they will destroy themselves,” according to reports.

Concerns about Europe’s trajectory have also been reflected in recent US strategic documents. The latest national security assessment released in December cautioned that the continent faces what it described as “civilizational erasure.” The report attributed this risk to actions by European institutions and international bodies that, according to the document, undermine “political liberty” and freedom of expression while promoting harmful migration policies.

Similar criticisms have been voiced by Russian officials. According to reports, Russia’s president stated in December that after the collapse of the Soviet Union, Moscow had expected acceptance into the “civilized Western family,” but instead concluded that “civilization there is nonexistent, and degradation is all there is.”
