Putin schedules meeting with US envoy Witkoff in Moscow

(MENAFN) The Kremlin announced on Wednesday that Russian President Vladimir Putin is scheduled to meet US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff in Moscow on Thursday, according to state media reports.

"We expect such a meeting tomorrow. It is on the president's schedule," Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told a news outlet.

Witkoff, speaking to a news agency at the World Economic Forum in Davos, said he and US President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner would also attend the meeting, noting recent progress in efforts to resolve the Ukraine conflict. "We’ll be seeing the Russians, Jared and I, sometime on Thursday evening," he said.

The US envoys plan to meet Ukrainian officials on Wednesday evening before their talks in Moscow. Witkoff added that the Kremlin had requested the discussions and expressed hope that they would soon have "something good to announce."

Both Witkoff and Kushner have previously met with Putin and Ukrainian delegations as part of ongoing efforts to end the Russia-Ukraine war, which is set to enter its fifth year next month.

Russian envoy Kirill Dmitriev described his talks with the US envoys on the sidelines of the WEF as "constructive."

A Ukrainian delegation, including Kyrylo Budanov, head of Ukraine’s presidential office, and Rustem Umerov, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, also arrived in Davos on Tuesday, following consultations with US officials in Miami over the weekend.
