Storm Chandra Hits UK with Heavy Rain, Strong Winds
(MENAFN) Storm Chandra has swept across the UK, bringing heavy rain and strong winds that have led to widespread disruptions. The storm—the third named this year—has forced road closures and caused cancellations of rail, ferry, and flight services.
Schools in parts of England and Northern Ireland have closed, while thousands of homes are reported without power. Yellow warnings for wind, rain, and snow remain in effect across areas of England, Scotland, and Wales, and an amber wind warning is in place for western Northern Ireland, including Belfast.
Chandra follows closely on the heels of Storm Ingrid, which caused significant damage over the past weekend. Combined with earlier rainfall from Storm Goretti, parts of south-west England are experiencing heavy rain on already saturated ground, increasing the risk of flooding, according to the Met Office.
An amber rain warning for south Devon, much of Dorset, southern Somerset, and south-east Cornwall was in place earlier on Tuesday but has since been lifted as conditions improved.
Despite this, National Rail has warned that services on South Western Railway may continue to be affected throughout the day.
Some areas in south-west England have already received 1.5 times their average January rainfall, leaving the region particularly vulnerable to further flooding.
