Prisoners run away from area controlled by PKK/YPG in Syria

(MENAFN) Several detainees have reportedly broken out of a prison located in a northern district of Aleppo controlled by the PKK/YPG-affiliated forces operating under the SDF designation, amid a sharp escalation of hostilities in the area. According to official accounts, the escape took place at a detention facility in the Al-Shaqif neighborhood, which is under SDF control, though the exact number of fugitives remains unknown.

At the same time, emergency responders said hundreds of civilians have been relocated due to worsening humanitarian conditions and ongoing shelling. By early afternoon local time, approximately 850 residents had been evacuated as bombardment intensified, forcing families to flee surrounding neighborhoods. The evacuations were organized through designated gathering points in the Al-Awarid area and along Zuhur Street as displacement accelerated.

Local transport authorities stated that all available technical assets and personnel had been mobilized, with buses operating at maximum capacity to move civilians and displaced individuals from affected zones to temporary shelters. Officials said these measures were intended to safeguard residents and reduce civilian hardship amid the unfolding situation.

Meanwhile, the Syrian army declared that SDF military positions in the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh districts of Aleppo constitute “legitimate targets,” citing the group’s escalation and alleged “massacres” in the province.

The latest developments followed renewed shelling of residential areas in Aleppo for a second consecutive morning, after attacks the previous day reportedly left at least five people dead and 16 others wounded.
