Man appears in court charged with murder of Donegal businessman
(MENAFN) A man has appeared in court facing charges over the murder of a prominent businessman in County Donegal.
Michael Maloney, 32, from Loughross Point, Ardara, is accused of killing Stephen McCahill, who was found dead following an assault at his home outside the town on Monday morning.
McCahill, a married father of two in his sixties, was a well-known businessman, community activist, and publican.
Maloney appeared at a special sitting of Letterkenny District Court on Tuesday. He was arrested at Ballyshannon Garda Station and did not respond when the single charge of murder was read to him.
A defence solicitor requested that Maloney receive the necessary medical and psychiatric care for a diagnosed psychiatric condition.
He was remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear via video link before Letterkenny District Court next week.
