Egypt Qualifies For AFCON Quarterfinals After Defeating Benin 3-1
Agadir: The Egyptian national football team qualified for the quarterfinals of the CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), after a hard-fought victory over Benin 3-1 in extra time, following a 1-1 draw in regular time.
The Round of 16 match took place in Agadir, Morocco on Monday.
Egypt took the lead in the 69th minute through Marwan Attia, before Benin equalized in the 83rd minute via Jodel Dossou, ending regular time in a 1-1 draw.
In minute seven of the first extra-time period, Yasser Ibrahim scored Egypt's second goal, before Mohamed Salah ensured Egypt's superiority by scoring the third goal in the match's final moments.
In the quarterfinals, Egypt will face the winner of the match between Burkina Faso and Cote d'Ivoire, scheduled for Tuesday.
