Supreme Court Names Delcy Rodriguez Venezuela’s Acting President

(MENAFN) Venezuela’s Supreme Court of Justice announced on Saturday that Executive Vice President Delcy Rodriguez must “immediately” take over and perform the duties of acting president, following the capture of President Nicolas Maduro by US forces and his transfer to New York.

According to a media outlet, the court instructed Rodriguez to assume the presidency “in strict compliance with the Constitution and Venezuelan laws.”

Tania D’Amelio, head of the Constitutional Chamber, explained that the decision was made to guarantee the “administrative continuity of the state and the defense of the nation.”

The court further declared that Maduro is in a “material and temporary impossibility” to fulfill his responsibilities.

On the same day, Venezuela’s authorities accused the United States of striking civilian and military sites across several regions, prompting the declaration of a national emergency.
US President Donald Trump later confirmed the "large-scale" military operation, stating that Maduro and his wife had been "captured and flown out of the country."

These developments followed months of intensifying US pressure on Maduro, whom Washington has accused of involvement in drug trafficking. Maduro rejected the allegations, insisting he was not a cartel leader and had expressed willingness to engage in negotiations.
