Avalanche Leaves Three Dead in Pakistan

(MENAFN) Three individuals perished Saturday after an avalanche engulfed a snow-clearing mission in Gilgit Baltistan, Pakistan's northern territory, according to the nation's military.

Pakistan's armed forces confirmed the fatalities included one army captain, one enlisted soldier, and one civilian operator working heavy equipment during the operation.

Military officials reported the avalanche occurred amid an active snow removal initiative deploying substantial machinery to reopen Burzil Pass "to facilitate the operational movement" of own forces in the area.

Captain Asmad Gulfam directed the clearance effort when the snow slide struck without warning, burying the commanding officer alongside two military personnel and one civilian machine operator beneath the debris.

The incident claimed three lives, military authorities confirmed.
