New Year in UAE means fireworks, stunning drone formations, and breaking records, giving residents a historic entry into the next chapter of their life. At the centre of it all stands one building – the world's tallest: Burj Khalifa.
Every December 31, millions anticipate the moment the iconic landmark lights up with a pyrotechnic display like no other, each year's show not just different, but bigger, than the last.

As residents gather in scores in Downtown Dubai, and others tune in to the livestream, behind the scenes, workers and technicians put in their all to make the New Year show unforgettable.
The preparation includes manual labour, skill, precision, and above all, coordination to make sure the world's tallest building counts down to the New Year flawlessly.
Mohammed Alabbar, founder of Emaar Properties which developed the Burj Khalifa, shared a video of the "world's most powerful light installation," thanking "all the technical teams for their outstanding efforts".

The video shows workers suspended with heavy-duty ropes from the Burj Khalifa's facade at jaw-dropping heights as they attached the high-end lasers and fixtures. Meanwhile, others handled the technical expertise, controlling the timing and effects.
Social media account Scroll Dubaii interviewed two of the crew behind the show, who said they had 6 months to prepare.
"The countdown raises our heartbeat; everything has to work on time at the 11:59:99 second. We are nervous and also excited," said Baiju, the co-founder of Johnson Technical Services, a Dubai-based company which provided lighting for the New Year show.
"The building has almost 250 light fixtures and 70 lasers," the other interviewee revealed.
After 180 days of planning and effort, Burj Khalifa lit up on December 31, 2025, as Dubai counted down to January 1, 2026. Pavements turned into viewing decks as residents looked towards the skies, watching the iconic landmark turn into a myriad of colours.
