Zelensky On New Year's Eve Attack: Russia Strikes Seven Regions, Targeting Energy Infrastructure

“The killings must be stopped – there can be no pauses in protecting human life. If the strikes do not stop even during the New Year holidays, then air defense deliveries cannot be delayed. Our allies have the necessary scarce equipment,” Zelensky stressed.

Zelensky expressed hope that“everything agreed with the United States at the end of December for our protection will be delivered on time.”

Commenting on the air attack on New Year's Eve, the President noted:“Russia deliberately brings war into the New Year – launching more than two hundred attack drones against Ukraine overnight. Most of them were successfully shot down, and I thank all our warriors who repelled this attack. The strikes hit the Volyn, Rivne, Zaporizhzhia, Odesa, Sumy, Kharkiv, and Chernihiv regions. The targets were our energy infrastructure”.

According to Zelensky, the targets of the attack were energy facilities. Rescue workers and energy specialists are now working wherever necessary.

As reported, the Air Defense Forces destroyed 176 of the 205 drones used by the Russians to attack Ukraine on the evening of December 31.

Two more Patriot surface-to-air missile systems have been deployed to protect Ukrainian cities and critical infrastructure. As previously reported by Ukrainian Defense Minister Denys Shmyhal, this was achieved thanks to recent agreements with the German government.

Earlier, Zelensky announced a shortage of missiles for some surface-to-air missile systems and called on partners to help with either missiles, licenses to manufacture them, or money to purchase them.
