Zelensky stresses importance of continued US backing

(MENAFN) Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy highlighted the critical role of American assistance in defending Ukraine against Russian aggression during a Monday interview on Fox News.

“Can we win without American support? No,” Zelenskyy said. “Without American support, we can't defend the sky. Even now, it's very difficult. But American support with missiles for air defense is really helpful and strong in any case.”

His comments followed a meeting on Sunday in Florida with US President Donald Trump, where the two discussed the ongoing war and post-war reconstruction. Trump stated that he had also spoken with Russian President Vladimir Putin about aiding Ukraine’s reconstruction, including providing energy and electricity at low cost, claiming that Putin “wants to see Ukraine succeed.”

Zelenskyy, however, expressed deep skepticism toward Russia. “I don't trust Russians…I don't trust Putin, and he doesn't want success for Ukraine,” he said, emphasizing that Moscow’s assurances should not be taken at face value.

Regarding post-war reconstruction, Zelenskyy insisted that any rebuilding efforts would require financial contributions from Russia: “They have to give us money…and we will rebuild everything what we need to rebuild.”
