Russia Reports Drone Strike on Presidential Residence in Novgorod

(MENAFN) On Monday, Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov asserted that Ukraine had conducted an overnight drone assault on the presidential residence in Novgorod, located in the country’s northwest.

Lavrov told reporters that Ukraine allegedly deployed 91 long-range drones, all of which were intercepted by Russian air defenses, with no casualties or damage reported.

Following the incident, Lavrov announced that Moscow would adjust its stance in ongoing peace negotiations concerning Ukraine. However, he emphasized: “We do not intend to withdraw from the negotiating process with the United States.”

He cautioned that such "reckless actions will not go unanswered," adding that Russia has prepared retaliatory measures.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy rejected the allegations in a statement posted on US social media platform X, contending that the accusations aim to "undermine all achievements of our shared diplomatic efforts with (US) President (Donald) Trump's team."

Zelenskyy further argued that Moscow’s claims are intended to "justify additional attacks against Ukraine, including Kyiv, as well as Russia’s own refusal to take necessary steps to end the war."
