Amman, Dec. 26 (Petra)-- Ministry of Local Administration announced that it has reviewed reports from the Jordan Meteorological Department and maps issued under the Early Warning System, which indicate that the Kingdom will be affected by a high-impact weather depression (Level Three) starting from midday on Saturday and continuing through Sunday.
According to the forecasts, heavy thundery rain is expected on Saturday evening, with a risk of flash floods and rising water levels in municipalities of Ajloun and Jerash, as well as parts of Balqa and northern Amman, in addition to municipalities in Madaba Governorate. These areas have been classified under a moderate risk level (yellow alert).
The forecasts further indicate that Saturday night into early Sunday will witness very heavy rainfall leading to flash floods and the flow of wadis across all municipalities of Karak and Tafilah governorates. These areas fall under a high-risk level (red alert), with indications of extremely heavy rainfall after midnight until Sunday morning in some locations, classified as a very high-risk level (dark red alert). This is expected to be accompanied by the danger of severe flash floods and rockslides.
The ministry confirmed that it has circulated the updated maps to municipalities and joint services councils, instructing them to closely monitor critical locations on the ground, activate emergency operations rooms, and enhance coordination with relevant authorities to ensure preparedness and protect lives and property. It added that the weather conditions are expected to gradually subside on Sunday and stabilize by evening.
The ministry also urged citizens to exercise caution, avoid flood channels and wadis, and adhere to safety instructions issued by the competent authorities to ensure public safety.
