The muezzin (person who gives the call for prayer) of Saudi's Masjid An-Nabwi, also known as the Prophet's Mosque, passed away after 25 years of service, the mosque announced on Tuesday, December 23.

Al-Baqi Cemetery, also known as Jannat al-Baqi (Garden of Heaven), is the oldest and most significant Islamic cemetery in Madinah, serving as the final resting place for thousands of early Muslims, including many of Prophet Muhammad's (PBUH) family members, wives, and companions.

In a heartfelt post, the mosque shared the final adhan (call to prayer) by the muezzin on November 2, before he breathed his last.

Calling worshippers for prayer came naturally to Sheikh Faisal, whose family practiced the noble act spanning across generations, with his father and grandfather both serving in the sacred mosque.

His grandfather was among the muzzeins of the mosque, while his father had been appointed to the role at the young age of 14. His father continued in the job for many decades, until he passed away at an age exceeding 90 years.

It was after this that Sheikh Faisal Nouman was appointed as the muezzin.

Sheikh Dr Abdulrahman Al-Sudais, President of Religious Affairs at the Grand Mosque and the Prophet's Mosque, extended his sincere condolences on his own behalf and on behalf of the Imams, muezzins, teachers, and all staff of the Presidency of Religious Affairs.

Sheikh Al-Sudais prayed that Allah Almighty envelop the late muezzin in His vast mercy, grant him the highest ranks in paradise, and reward him abundantly for his years of service and for raising the call to prayer in the Prophet's Mosque. He also conveyed his heartfelt sympathies to the family, relatives, and loved ones of the deceased, asking Allah to grant them patience and solace.

Earlier this year, the Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia and the Head of the Council of Senior Scholars, Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Al-Sheikh, passed away.

After his passing, a new Grand Mufti, Sheikh Dr Saleh bin Fawzan bin Abdullah Al-Fawzan, was appointed by royal decree by Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.
